Professional Information
She holds a degree in Sociology and a Ph.D. in Social Sciences from the École Normale Supérieure in Paris. Her research focuses on kinship, residence, and everyday economies from an ethnographic-phenomenological perspective that brings together sociology, anthropology, and architecture. As a lecturer, she has specialized in courses on social theory and ethnography.
Before joining Signos, she served for 15 years as a faculty member and lecturer at the Institute of Sociology of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. She is also a member of the 9×18 Laboratory of the UC School of Architecture, where she conducts applied research on the design and evaluation of innovative urban-residential regeneration policies.
Since 2025, she has served as Director of the Ph.D. Program in Political and Social Studies, a joint initiative of the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Signos Center at Universidad de los Andes.
Research interests
Her work focuses on domestic life, kinship, and residence, examining how people organize and experience life at home. She mainly uses qualitative methods, especially ethnography and phenomenological approaches, to understand daily life experiences related to housing.
She has researched topics such as household daily economies, self-built housing, intergenerational co-residence, and changes in urban neighborhoods. She has also explored the relationship between family life patterns, religious beliefs, and social participation.
Currently, she is leading a project that analyzes how young adults from lower-middle-class backgrounds in Santiago build and sustain domestic life in different neighborhood settings, and how family and community networks influence their residential decisions.
Teaching
As a lecturer, she has specialized in courses on social theory and ethnography.
