Personal profile

Professional Information

I am Claudia Brizuela, a full professor at the Faculty of Dentistry and Director of Research and Doctoral Studies at the University of the Andes.

With 20 years of experience in research, teaching, and academic leadership, my career has focused on driving innovation in dentistry through key areas such as dental regeneration, oral biomarkers, and artificial intelligence applied to dentistry. I have led multiple research projects funded by Fondecyt and FONDEF, developing new solutions for diagnosing and treating dental diseases.

My work on pulp regeneration aims to restore the vitality of damaged teeth, offering innovative alternatives to traditional treatments. Additionally, I research how biomarkers in dental fluids can enable more personalized and less invasive diagnostics. In parallel, I explore the use of artificial intelligence to transform dental treatments, making them faster, more precise, and tailored to each patient. Throughout my career, I have mentored new generations of researchers, supervised undergraduate and postgraduate theses, and collaborated on international scientific committees.

My mission is to continue advancing modern dentistry to improve people's quality of life through accessible and personalized solutions.

Teaching

Throughout my academic career, I have demonstrated outstanding performance in university teaching, particularly at Universidad de los Andes (UANDES). At this institution, I created and directed the Endodontics specialization program, which I led for 11 years, establishing it as a benchmark in specialist training. During this period, I designed an innovative curriculum that integrated advanced clinical practice and research, promoting comprehensive and excellent education.

I have taught undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate courses, and I am a member of the permanent faculty of the Doctorate in Dental Sciences. Additionally, I have contributed to the design and teaching of the Endodontics Diploma, focusing on areas such as Endodontics, Regenerative Dentistry, and the application of Artificial Intelligence in Dentistry. My teaching philosophy is based on active learning, integrating theory and clinical practice to foster critical and independent thinking in students.

I have also supervised theses, led practical workshops, and participated as a guest lecturer at other institutions, showcasing my ability to adapt content to diverse educational contexts. These experiences have enriched my teaching practice and expanded my impact on academic training, consolidating my commitment to educational excellence.

Research interests

My research interests focus on the field of dental regeneration, with a specific emphasis on pulp regeneration. I have worked on projects exploring the development of advanced biomaterials, such as polymeric matrices and functional scaffolds, to promote dental tissue regeneration. This approach combines tissue engineering strategies and cell biology to develop innovative therapies for clinical application.

Additionally, I am interested in the study of dental biomarkers, particularly those present in dentinal fluid and related tissues. These biomarkers have the potential to revolutionize diagnosis and prognosis in dentistry, enabling a more personalized and precise approach to dental treatment.

More recently, I have incorporated Artificial Intelligence (AI) into my research lines, leveraging this technology to optimize image analysis, predict clinical outcomes, and enhance decision-making in regenerative dentistry. My goal is to integrate these areas to develop tools and therapies that transform dental practice, benefiting both patients and healthcare professionals.
