In addition to his clinical work, he is recognized for his commitment to medical education and academic leadership. His teaching role and involvement in applied research have contributed to strengthening clinical training in gastroenterology and internal medicine. In 2021, he was honored with the Laureate Award by the Chilean Chapter of the American College of Physicians, becoming the youngest member to receive this distinction, in recognition of his outstanding career in teaching, clinical care, and community service.
His research focuses on the study of neurogastroenterology and gastrointestinal motility disorders, with particular emphasis on the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of conditions such as gastroparesis, non-erosive reflux, and irritable bowel syndrome. He has also published on topics including gastrointestinal involvement in scleroderma, eosinophilic esophagitis, the intestinal microbiota, and irritable bowel syndrome.
In addition, he has contributed to the development of local clinical guidelines, such as those for the management of Clostridioides difficile infection, in which he has served as corresponding author, and has co-authored books on irritable bowel syndrome, functional dyspepsia, and constipation. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Neurogastroenterology at the University of Leuven, Belgium.
As a faculty member at the University of the Andes, he teaches clinical courses in the field of Internal Medicine, with a special focus on gastroenterology, digestive motility, and functional gastrointestinal disorders. His teaching is characterized by a combination of scientific rigor, applied clinical focus, and ongoing updates, integrating international experience and the most recent scientific evidence.
He actively participates in the training of medical interns and residents, promoting a comprehensive view of the patient and evidence-based clinical decision-making. He also collaborates in national and international academic activities, contributing to the professional development of his students and colleagues.
