Professional Information

Dentist (DDS) and Ph.D. in Dental Sciences from the University of Chile. During her doctoral training, she completed a six-month international research stay under the supervision of Dr. Lesley Smyth at the University of East London (London, United Kingdom).

In 2019 and 2021, she was awarded the Hatton Chile Award by the International Association for Dental Research (IADR), Chile Division. In 2022, she received the IADR Hatton Award in the Senior Basic Research category at the international level (Chengdu, China). That same year, she was also awarded the Hermann Niemeyer Medal by the Chilean Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SBBMCh), among other distinctions.

Throughout her scientific career, she has disseminated her research findings at both national and international levels. Notable participations include the annual meetings of IADR Chile and the Chilean Association of Immunology (Asochin); IADR meetings in London, Washington, Bogotá, and New Orleans; LAMIG (Latin American Mucosal Immunology Group) in Mexico City; ALACI (Latin American and Caribbean Association of Immunology) in Varadero and Buenos Aires; the IUIS (International Union of Immunological Societies) in Cape Town, South Africa; and the Oral Mucosal Immunology and Microbiome meeting in Crete, Greece.

She is an active member of the IADR Chile Division, the Chilean Association of Immunology (Asochin), and the Society for Mucosal Immunology (SMI). In addition, she has participated in multiple science outreach activities aimed at the general public, including the EXPLORA ANID program, the Art+Science project, and school science fairs, among others.

Currently, she serves as a research faculty member at the Faculty of Dentistry of Universidad de los Andes, supported by a “Strengthening Excellence in Research” initiative. She is also the principal investigator of a Fondecyt Postdoctoral Project, co-investigator on a Fondecyt Regular Project, and collaborator on other ANID-funded research and innovation projects.

Research interests

My research interests are encompassed in the fields of Biomedicine, Translational Medicine and related areas. Particularly, in general, oral and maxillofacial Immunology, Mucosal Immunology, responses associated with microorganism-host interactions, Mechanisms for Immunotherapies, host and bacterial-derived extracellular vesicles, Immunomodulatory strategies and, more recently, Neuroimmunology.

Additionally, although I have not worked directly in these areas, I have a deep interest in Cariology and Public Health.
