Graduated Nurse from Universidad de los Andes in 1997; faculty member at the same institution since that year. Specialist in Pediatric Hospital Nursing from Universidad de Navarra, Master of Education in Health Sciences from Universidad de Chile, and PhD in Education and Society from Universidad de Barcelona.
As a nurse, my vocation guides my teaching practice, with a profound sense of the human value in education, which is reciprocal and transcends the classroom. Reciprocal, because teaching involves a permanent human relationship where both teacher and student first recognize each other as persons, ensuring that each learning experience is meaningful, lasting, and fosters not only knowledge but also human connection.
My research is driven by a commitment to advancing education in the health sciences through a student-centered curriculum that recognizes learners as active participants in the construction of knowledge. I seek to explore how teaching methodologies can be innovatively adapted to diverse contexts, ensuring that learning is meaningful, enduring, and deeply connected to human values.
A central dimension of my work is the use of qualitative research methodologies to examine the lived experiences of students, educators, and communities. These approaches allow me to investigate how educational practices shape professional identity, foster critical thinking, and strengthen the human relationships that underpin effective teaching and learning.
I am particularly interested in the integration of community engagement into higher education, bridging academic knowledge with societal needs. This perspective emphasizes reciprocity in education, where both teacher and student recognize each other as persons, creating a foundation for transformative learning.
Long-Term Research Goals
In the long term, I aim to contribute to the transformation of health sciences education by developing frameworks that integrate innovative pedagogy, qualitative inquiry, and community engagement. My goal is to design and evaluate educational models that are inclusive, context-sensitive, and sustainable, with the capacity to strengthen professional practice and social responsibility. I aspire to generate knowledge that not only informs academic curricula but also influences policy and institutional strategies, ensuring that health sciences education remains responsive to evolving societal challenges.
I am deeply interested in teaching, research, and community engagement, always guided by a student-centered curriculum. In teaching, I focus on incorporating innovative methodologies adapted to diverse contexts.
