Physician from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Specialist in Internal Medicine and Nephrology. He has developed his professional and academic activities in public and private institutions. He has been an adjunct professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Chile; director of the Medical Society Santiago; President of the Committee on Acute Renal Insufficiency and President of the Chilean Society of Nephrology (SCHN); Co-editor of the “Manual of Nephrology and Hypertension”, co-investigator in Fonis, Corfo and Fondecyt projects; invited professor to numerous courses national and international and author or co-author of more than a hundred scientific works related to his specialties, medical management and university teaching. His areas of interest as a researcher have been the prevention of cardiovascular damage in kidney disease, the adequacy of hemodialysis, studies on empirical ethics and university teaching.He has a master's degree in philosophy, with a major in epi stemology, from the University of Chile. He is currently president of the Ethics Committee of the SCHN; member of the Latin American Society of Nephrology and Hypertension and of the International Society of Nephrology; member of the Bioethics Center of the Universidad de los Andes; Felow of the American College of Physicians, Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad de los Andes.
