Professional Information

Annjeanette Martin holds a PhD in Foreign Language Education and a Master’s in Spanish from the University of Texas at Austin. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in English and Spanish from Pacific University, Oregon. She is currently an Associate Professor at the School of Education, Faculty of Social Sciences, Universidad de los Andes, where she also serves as Director of the Bilingual Primary Education program.

Research interests

Her research focuses on second language acquisition (SLA), methodologies for teaching and learning English as a Foreign Language (EFL), initial teacher education in EFL programs, bilingual education, and teacher professional development. She has served as principal and co-investigator in Fondecyt-funded education projects, including studies on male participation in primary education and the development of talented women in STEM fields. Recently, she was awarded FAI funding for the project “Late Vocations: Challenges and Profiles of High School Teachers in the Context of Teacher Shortages”.

Teaching

In her academic role, she leads the Bilingual Primary Education program and teaches courses related to second language acquisition, initial teacher education, and EFL pedagogy. She also leads curriculum development initiatives and professional training programs, contributing her expertise as a teacher educator and curriculum designer in language pedagogy.
