Personal profile

Professional Information

I studied Biochemistry and developed an early interest in the functioning of the central nervous system. I began my research career by focusing on intercellular communication mediated by brain-derived extracellular vesicles. I also became deeply fascinated by axonal biology and how neurons adapt their cellular machinery to support outgrowth and maintenance.

More recently, I have combined both passions to investigate how extracellular vesicles may hijack axonal protein synthesis to regulate axonal function. Throughout these years, my research activity has been closely interwoven with teaching and organizing courses for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Research interests

My research interests focus on understanding the basic cellular biology mechanisms underlying extracellular vesicle-mediated signaling and axonal protein synthesis. I am also involved in exploring how extracellular vesicles contribute to stress-induced adaptations and their potential as diagnostic tools for cognitive and mood disorders. More recently, I have developed a broader interest in the use of cellular automata to study fundamental aspects of neural network functioning.

Teaching

My academic work is primarily focused on teaching neuroscience to medical students and basic cell biology to postgraduate students. I also deliver lectures on image processing and microscopy at the postgraduate level
