    Personal profile

    Professional Information

Associate Professor at the Faculty of Nursing and Obstetrics, Universidad de los Andes (Santiago, Chile), where I serve as Director of Graduate and Continuing Education. I am a registered nurse and a PhD candidate in Nursing Science at the University of São Paulo (Brazil).

My academic career has focused on the development of graduate and continuing education programmes in ageing, gerontology and geriatrics, and on strengthening research lines in ageing and health psychometrics. I lead postgraduate diplomas and clinical specialisation programmes and coordinate interdisciplinary teaching teams oriented to evidence-based education, with an emphasis on comprehensive geriatric assessment and quality of care for older adults.

My research activities include national and international collaborations on the cross-cultural adaptation, validation and application of health measurement instruments, particularly those used in comprehensive geriatric assessment and in the functional and cognitive evaluation of older adults.

    Research interests

My research interests lie at the intersection of ageing, gerontology and geriatrics, health psychometrics, and clinical and population-based research in older adults. I work on the cross-cultural adaptation, validation and evaluation of instruments used in comprehensive geriatric assessment, with a focus on measuring frailty, functional status, symptoms, subjective cognitive complaints and autonomy in older adults.

I am particularly interested in analysing the quality of validity and reliability evidence reported in psychometric studies, using contemporary frameworks such as the APA Standards (2014). My work includes scoping and narrative reviews, as well as clinical and population-based empirical studies based on datasets of older adults.

More specifically, I aim to develop a research line focused on autonomy and functional trajectories in community-dwelling older adults, integrating psychometric models with the clinical and population-level use of a set of comprehensive geriatric assessment scales adapted and validated for the Chilean context.

In addition, I conduct disciplinary nursing research, particularly on the nursing model of the School of Nursing at Universidad de los Andes, its implementation in clinical practice, its integration across the undergraduate curriculum, the validation of expected behaviour matrices, and studies on nursing education and assessment, including research related to the National Nursing Examination.

    Teaching

My teaching activities are mainly within graduate and continuing education at Universidad de los Andes. I direct the Diploma in Gerontology and Geriatrics and participate in several nursing specialisation programmes in specific clinical areas.

I design and deliver courses focused on comprehensive geriatric assessment, nursing care for older adults across levels of care, interdisciplinary work, evidence-based clinical decision-making, applied research and basic training in health psychometrics, particularly the critical use and interpretation of clinical scales and measurement instruments. I combine synchronous and asynchronous sessions, case-based learning, seminars and practice-oriented activities linked to clinical settings.

My teaching approach integrates anthropological foundations, ethics of care, rigorous appraisal of measurement instruments and critical use of scientific evidence, fostering clinical reasoning, person-centred communication with older adults and the development of competencies to lead nursing care in complex contexts of ageing and multimorbidity.
