Dentist graduated from the University of Chile, Specialist in Periodontics from the same institution. After completing my specialty, I worked as a faculty member and researcher at the University of Chile, teaching in the undergraduate periodontics clinic and postgraduate programs. I have been interested in research since my undergraduate studies. Alongside my teaching and research activities, I have also been developing my clinical practice.

I have been working at the University of the Andes for 17 years, where I have served as an undergraduate professor in the field of periodontics. Later, we established the Postgraduate Specialty Program in Periodontics, in which I currently participate as a collaborating faculty member. I have also been involved in the Master’s in Research and Innovation in Dentistry, which I directed for a couple of years and currently participate in as a thesis advisor and faculty member. Additionally, I am part of the faculty of the Doctorate in Biomedicine and the Ph.D. in Dental Sciences.

In terms of university administration, I am currently the Head of the Department of Pathology and Conservative Dentistry and the Director of Research in the Faculty of Dentistry. I was also the President of the IADR-Chile Division, Vice President of the Periodontics Society, and currently serve as Director of the Scientific Committee of the Chilean Periodontics Society. Throughout my career, I have been awarded various grants and research projects from ANID and CORFO, where I act as the principal investigator and collaborate with researchers from different national and international universities, such as the Universidad de la Frontera, Universidad Austral, Universidad de Chile, and Universidad de Concepción.

Internationally, we have collaborations with institutions like the Complutense University, the International University of Catalonia, the University of Guarulhos, and Universidad El Bosque, among others. My clinical practice is carried out at the University of the Andes Clinic

At present, we are conducting several ongoing research projects focused on investigating the relationship between periodontitis and diabetes, as well as periodontitis and neuroinflammation. Furthermore, we are exploring oral biomarkers through proteomic and transcriptomic techniques to enable the early and minimally invasive identification of peri-implantitis and various pregnancy-related conditions, such as preeclampsia and gestational diabetes, using oral fluids.

In addition, we are collaborating on studies examining biomarkers associated with pulp pathologies, the link between periapical disease and cardiovascular risk, and the development of regenerative scaffolds aimed at restoring periodontal and peri-implant tissues lost as a result of periodontal and peri-implant diseases.

My teaching area focuses on the discipline of periodontics, which studies the supporting tissues of the teeth and their relationship with other systemic diseases. I participate in undergraduate courses but primarily in the postgraduate Periodontics program at our University, the Master's program in Research and Innovation, and the Doctoral programs in Biomedicine and Dental Sciences.

My research lines are related to periodontal medicine, biomarkers, precision dentistry, and the regeneration of periodontal tissues
