Professional Information
Alberto Octavio Vergara Fernández, has a degree in Engineering Sciences and a Biochemical Engineer from the School of Biochemical Engineering, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso. Chile. He is also a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering Sciences from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Division of Basic Sciences and Engineering. Metropolitan Autonomous University - Iztapalapa. Mexico.
He is currently a Full Category Professor of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences of the Universidad de los Andes, Chile. Member and Founder "Green Technology Research Group, G-Tech". Dr. Vergara-Fernández has been a Visiting Researcher at the Department of Processes and Technology, Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana - Cuajimalpa Unit - Mexico. He was also Visiting Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Technologies, School of Industrial Engineering of the University of Valladolid - Spain and External Researcher, Institute of Sustainable Processes. University of Valladolid - Spain. He was recently Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, Center for Studies and Research in Biotechnology. Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana - Medellín- Colombia.
Research interests
His research areas are transport phenomena in biological systems (phenomenological models), Treatment of volatile hydrophobic compounds with filamentous fungi. Indoor air treatment, Mathematical modeling of biological systems, bioreactors and environmental pollution, Development of renewable energy (bioenergy) and use of biomass, Design, assembly and start-up of treatment systems for solids, liquids and gases.
Teaching
Dr. Vergara-Fernández has taught at the Universidad de los Andes, Universidad Católica de Temuco, Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana - Iztapalapa, Mexico and Universidad Mayor - Temuco Headquarters.
