Professional Information

Álvaro Javier Vergés Gómez trained as a psychologist at the University of Chile and holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Missouri‑Columbia. He is an Associate Professor in the School of Psychology at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Universidad de los Andes, and serves as an adjunct researcher at the IMHAY Millennium Nucleus focused on adolescent and youth mental health.

He has received notable awards, including the “Rising Star” from the Association for Psychological Science (2021) and the Current Research Contribution in Psychology from the Chilean Society of Psychology (2015).

Research interests

His research addresses addictive behaviors, personality, and psychopathology, backed by advanced methodological training in multivariate techniques such as structural equation modeling and multilevel análisis.

He recently led the Fondecyt Regular project “Impulsivity and Sleep Quality as Predictors of Addictive Behaviors and Depression in Emerging Adulthood”, using Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) to capture daily dynamics. His work also covers adolescent addictive behavior, depression, personality disorders, and youth well-being.
